Camera test
Preview your camera locally and verify that video reaches the browser. Permission is requested only when you start.
Processed locally in this browserPreview your camera locally
Permission is requested only after you start. The live image stays between your camera and this page; DeviceTriage does not record, capture, or upload it.
- Browser-exposed stream
- Camera details become available after permission is granted.
- Privacy
- Live preview only — no recording
Only the measurement and review summary stays in this browser for 7 days for Device Check and JSON reports. No photos, video, audio or screenshots are stored. Denied permission and unfinished tests are not faults. Visual and listening reviews are labeled as user reports.
What this test proves—and what it cannot
The camera test requests a live browser preview so you can verify permission, device selection, picture continuity, and browser-exposed stream settings. Video remains in the page, is not recorded, and stops when you finish or leave.
Last reviewed: 2026-09-01Signals measured
- Whether camera permission can be requested in this context
- Whether a selected video stream starts and remains active
- Browser-exposed resolution, frame-rate, facing-mode, and device label when available
- User-observed focus, brightness, color, framing, and freezes
How the test works
- Access begins only after the user presses the start control.
- The browser displays its own permission decision; DeviceTriage cannot bypass it.
- The MediaStream is attached directly to a local video element.
- Tracks are stopped when the test ends or the component leaves the page.
Interpreting the results
Measurement limits
- A browser cannot inspect the sensor, cable electronics, or physical shutter state.
- Reported settings can be negotiated values rather than the camera's maximum specification.
- Permission denial is not a failed-camera diagnosis.
Missing or privacy-reduced detail is not scored as a fault by itself.
Questions about this test
Does DeviceTriage upload or save camera video?
No. The preview is connected locally to the browser's live MediaStream. The test does not record, encode, or upload it.
Why is the resolution lower than the camera specification?
The browser negotiates a stream based on requested constraints, available modes, performance, and privacy behavior. The active setting is not a complete hardware specification.
